Welcome to our website
Each Family is designed in a special way. Children make up the best part of any family. As the Owner and Program Director of Carolina Ties of the Lowcountry, I will continue to help keep children first. Â
Supervised Visitation services has been provided within our community since 2004 under Family Ties of the Lowcountry with Linda Toporek.
At CTL Services, we believes children need and deserve healthy relationships with their parents as well as positive home environments to support healthy foundations for the emotional growth of children.
My goal is to continue the same service of excellence in helping families in the Lowcountry. We currently have 8 professionals who are well-trained and experienced in assisting families working through a multitude of possible issues requiring court order intervention. Supportive Parent Monitoring is also available for parents in search of a plan to move from supervised to unsupervised visitation with their children.Â

Visit Supervisors
Visit Supervisors that work with Family Ties are trained professionals who care about children and families in our community. In addition to following all court-ordered supervision directives, supervisors understand and adhere to the policies and procedures of Family Ties. This includes safety procedures, professional boundaries, conflicts of interest, maintaining neutrality, observation/documentation protocols, intervention procedures, and work ethics. They also understand the systemic response to abuse; child abuse reporting laws and guidelines; restraining orders and orders of protection; and legal processes. They are well-informed on issues related to substance abuse, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, predator behavior, and cultural issues. They have knowledge about the developmental stages of children, parenting skills, and the effects of divorce, separation and supervision on children. All are mandatory reporters of child abuse. We typically have approximately 10 or more trained supervisors available with different levels of expertise to help the families we work with.
Testimonials
Supervision can be stressful for any family. It is a great day when families can navigate through the touch times and create a new since of normalcy. Below are a few experiences..
My spouse and I wanted to let you know just how much we all enjoyed having the Supervisor with our family today. From the moment we met in the parking lot, to the car ride back to exchange this evening and all points in between, she was the consummate professional and a real class act. Honestly, more than that, it’s as though she was a close family friend, because she blended right in, was engaging and participative, and the children felt right at home with her involvement. We had an excellent visit and no doubt she played a vital role. My spouse and I wanted you to be aware of how much our family genuinely liked her. She’s a first rate ambassador for your company. Thank you, and we wish you all the best.
Carolina Ties has been with our family from the time our child was born. Kamisha and her team are thoughtful, thorough and professional. My child loves and trusts the supervisors, and feels safe. They feel like a part of our family and I truly don’t know what we would do without them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Sight and Sound Supervision? What is Sight or Sound?
Most visits will have Sight and Sound supervision provided. This means that a visit supervisor must see and hear all interactions between the child and visiting party throughout the visit. A more lenient type of monitoring, Sight or Sound, means that a visit supervisor must be able to either see or hear the parties. This type of supervision will only be provided if specified in a court order.Â
What does a Supervisor do on a visit?
A visit supervisor follows the court order, if there is one. A visit supervisor’s first concern is the child’s well-being but they also want the visit to be comfortable for you and your child. A visit supervisor can remain in the background (as long as monitoring guidelines are followed) or participate in activities and/or conversation. This is the visiting party’s choice. We attempt to assign one supervisor to a family in an effort to limit the number of strangers in the child’s life and to raise the comfort level of the visit for all parties.
What can my children and I do on a Supervised Visitation? Are there any limitations?
Most visits require sight and sound supervision. That means that a supervisor must be able to hear and see all interactions between the visiting parent and the children. Certain activities will be limited because of this. Other locations are prohibited if it may cause injury to a child while on a visitation. Please discuss the visitation activities you are interested in at intake to help you plan your day better. Mileage costs may be incurred depending on the number of miles a supervisor drives.Â
